Taste for good eating...

Navia has a rich and varied gastronomy based on the quality of its fresh fish and seafood which can be tasted in the restaurants in the area.

In the capital or in the typical fishing port of Puerto de vega, you can find a variety of fish and seafood that give life to a series of dishes like for example, clams marinera, seafood salad, seafood grills...

Relations with hunting and river fishing of our region and the pork sausage and rapón (kind of corn with Bacon pie) must not forget the dishes and desserts, cottage cheese of honey and the venera as more representative without forgetting the typical desserts of the Asturian cuisine like mantecadas, frixuelos, and arroz con leche. The Venera, most typical sweet of the municipality, it is said that the name comes from "dies veneris" (Friday), the day dedicated to Venus, Goddess of love. Others claim that it comes from vieira, a mollusc whose shell is the symbol of the Jacobean pilgrimage. There who identify two things, because it is well known that Venus is depicted as a goddess that is born from a great scallop shell. The truth is that the venera is a dessert that combines almonds, sugar and eggs and is the sweetest symbol which eat in Navia.
